Guidance for the online conference

Please note: all conference timings are British Summer Time (GMT+1)

The online conference is a new feature of the ESEH Conference! By providing an online space to meet, we’ve been able to reach those unable to travel to Bristol in person – an important aspect of a post-Covid19 scholarly community. Your patience with the various logins, links and protocols is much appreciated.

The online conference platform is Zoom Events. Sessions will take place on Zoom.

You will receive your online conference ‘ticket’ as a link, and will need to activate it by clicking the link. Please do this ahead of time. We will not be able to attend to individual queries once the conference is underway.

For reasons of consistency and security, most sessions will be webinars, with audiences able to type questions for the panel but not turn on video or audio.

If a session abstract has specified audience interaction, eg. Via a ‘flipped‘ panel or an interactive activity, then it will be in a standard zoom meeting format. In this sessions, we ask the Chairs to moderate the session, eg. instructing audiences to mute themselves when required.

Every online presenter and chair has their own profile on the online platform. We advise providing as much information as possible, including a photo, to make the interface as ‘human’ as possible. Please check your email for an invite to edit your speaker bio.

Every session will have an ’Alternative Host’, a member of the local organising team. They are on hand to start and end the session, and to help moderate and flag any issues with sound or video. However, responsibility for time-keeping, screen-sharing and responding to questions posed in the Q&A box lies with speakers and chairs.

Speakers and Chairs can access their sessions via the email link sent by Zoom Events, or by clicking on the session in the ‘Itinerary’ section of the online conference site.

We have scheduled a Poster Meet-And-Greet session, where you can view and talk to our poster presenters about their work. Please do join them for this, from 12.30 – 2pm on Monday 4 July, in the ’Expo’ area. In the same slot, there is a Publisher Meet-and-Greet, also in the Expo area – do stop by and meet the publishers too!

Please note that the sessions are set to be recorded, with individual session opt-outs available. Recordings will be automatically published to the Lobby. These recordings will be available to us for some time (up to a year) after the conference, in the ESEH Zoom Events space only, creating a useful resource for participants and ESEH.

Only people registered to the conference will receive a Zoom link.
